side impact airbags and car seats

Does anyone know anything about side impact air bags and car seats? I'm going to have two car seats in my car,(one forward facing, one rear facing) and I have side impact air bags. Do I need to get them disabled, or are the kids safe as long as they're in their seats?

  • Bump, I want to know too.
  • Bump. I'll have two as well in 2 months.
  • Some side impact airbags are safe to use with carseats, some aren't. You can check your car's manual and it will tell you if your specific car has airbags that are safe to use with carseats. If it says no, then they need to be disabled. Are you positive they are side impact airbags? If they are side curtain airbags, they are most definitely safe.

  • Side curtain air bags are safe for car seats.. But Side impact air bags come in to the backseat cabin and certainly are not safe for carseats
  • Thanks guys. My truck has side curtain airbags so I'm glad to know we're safe.
