Opinions? Suggestions, requests?

edited November 2012 in About App & Forum
I'm thinking about starting a new thread either weekly or biweekly to highlight different pregnancy & parenting issues. I would post some basic information along with some links for more reading and then pin it to the top of the forum so everyone could see it and discus the topic. I would also set up a new category for these threads to go in so they could be easily found later.

What do you all think? I'm open to suggestions on topics everyone would like to see covered.

  • That sounds like a great idea
  • Sounds good :)
  • Great idea!!
  • Pretty sound idea
  • Awesome idea
  • Anyone have any suggestions or requests on topics you'd like to see?
  • How about a topic for when to know you are done having kids.... maybe some advice from those who have "closed up shop" I dont want anymore kids, I want to be done with the baby stage... but at the same time I dont know if I will ever be 100% sure I dont want more.
  • @My2Boys I don't know how I would approach that. That's a very personal and complicated topic.
  • @My2Boys I had my tubes tied last October. I feel like you do, but I have 2 kids and I'm pushing 30. I know the feeling of wanting another baby will always be there, but I felt it was best to get tied. If you have any question, you can pm me.
  • Maybe some topics or information for first time moms, also topics for moms with 2 or more children. Activities to do with your children, different ways to discipline younger children, those that have young picky eaters, maybe some referral websites or ideas for fun or useful ways to get them to eat. Honestly these are things I would be interested in and I think for a lot of first time moms would appreciate different suggestions and such in a friendly manner. Things for sahm as well, ideas for if you are stressed, or if you are sufforing from PPD
  • Maybe during pregnancy information to help with certain things like GD or depression during pregnancy, just throwing things out there lol.
  • I don't think you should pin topics... Maybe pin a monthly contest or births. I just think pinning should be for minimal yet highly important stuff. Too much pinning can clutter the board. Topics should be aloud to die out.
  • @YNVTish I was thinking of having a single permanent announcement that I would update weekly or biweekly listing the topics covered in that weeks thread(s) so people could check what the latest topics posted were but without cluttering things. It would benefit members who don't log in regularly and those without accounts to have a quick reference point and a reminder. Thoughts?
  • Well technically every topic would then be personal and complicated. Everyone has strong opinions about everything on here. Why can't people share there experiences and thoughts? People wonder why no one posts on pregly anymore? Prob because there is no expressing yourself on here. You can't post about sex, vaccine threads get closed, abortion, adoption, spousal abuse is a very personal touchy subject. How about you pick the topics bc I know only the topics you want to talk about will be pinned to the top and they wont get closed down.

@my2boys You misunderstand. I'm thinking of things that I can post information on and provide links to full articles and other resources about. I don't know how I could do that with that subject. You are welcome to begin your own discussion about the topic of course. Threads that dissolve into arguments or rude expressions of judgment will be closed down regardless of the original topic, yes. Threads that are sexually graphic have no place on Pregly, this is a pregnancy & parenting forum not a pornography site. Discussing sex as it relates to pregnancy is fine.
  • @Moderator ... As moderator you should do whatever you like. You may have a better outcome when you don't ask for opinions. Sometimes there's too many chiefs and not enough Indians. (or is it the other way around) LOL

But seriously... Don't ask for opinions, just do it and surprise us and you'll notice that poeple will automatically conform.

I would say this.. you should create 2 user names. User @moderator for strictly business ... Cut and dry stuff and use the other one (without telling folks that you're mod and do your posting (but I guess if you pin it now.. we'll know Hunh?)

Dont put your business username in jeopardy of having to deal with drama that's personal.

Since you're new and people don't know who your are they respect you. Keep your respect and don't get personal...

    Be strictly about business...
  • Totally agree with you @ynvtish!

    {ps your right..to many chiefs not enough Indians.}
  • I think car seat safety would be a good topic. Like why extended rear facing is safer than forward facing. And why a 5 point harness is safer than a booster seat with a seat belt
  • I've got nothing (suggestion wise) but it sounds like a good idea.
  • Post partum health would be a good one....Idk if there already is one I should have looked before I put this lol
  • To vax/ not to vax I know its touchy but if we post links supporting both people could have the reasearch right at their finger tips
  • I think most topics will just cause craziness. Not the best idea to keep the forum open or feeling,"safe".
  • Something different has to happen to liven it up in here
