  • My son started using one at 4
  • My son has since he was 3 cause he was too big for a carseat and met the requirements for a booster.
  • Usually 4. Because that's when they reach the weight limit of 40 pounds. But it's more important that the seat belt is in the correct place for safety :) and of he still fits and u feel comfortable with the car seat it's not going to hurt if u feel like waiting. But by 5 he should safety wise b ready!
  • Thanks everyone @jules he only 34 pounds lol
  • Oh ok does he meet the time requirement?
  • Rear facing is 500% safer than forward facing! Check these links out

The first link has info at the bottom about the dangers of booster seats. Please read this stuff!
  • You may have to call the safety department and see what their law is on weight and heighth in your city.
  • @Jules on a few different seats he does but @ashley_smashleys links freaked me out so I think we'll be in a carseat for a bit longer lol thanks everybody !
  • My son was five, but he was/is small for his age. If you call you police department
(Non emergency number) they can tell you your states car seat and booster seat laws.
  • Im all for rear facing until the child doesn't fit in that position anymore, but i doubt a 5 year old fits comfortably like that.
As long as your son fits in the car seat, you should definitely use it. My little brother and sister used it until they were 6 so there's nothing wrong with using the car seat for as long as you need too. Now my niece skipped from her toddler car seat to the booster seat (which i totally disagreed with) and i would always tell my brother(older) that she needed the appropriate car seat but he never got it for her. My niece is 4 now about to turn 5 and she uses the booster seat.
  • I agree with @perly there's nothing wrong with still using it especially if your child still fits in it and you feel.comfortable with it :)
  • By the way, the picture below shows the kind of car seat my brother and sister used until they were 6.

  • Am keeping my son in scar seat till he can not fit no more they are safer then a booster. I think age 4-5 is when they can go in a booster not sure. My cousin is 6 going to be 7 in August and she still in a car seat but she is also small
  • If he can fit in a five point harness I would keep him in it
  • @perly That is a booster seat. Our daughter has one just like it. The back comes off and makes a backless booster. My daughter is over 6 1/2 and still uses the back.
  • @lilbit01_209 ok. I thought only the bottom part was the booster. Either way i think its safer than using it without the back. Just my opinion.
  • @perly It is safer in the fact that it properly aligns the belt onto the body. My daughter is short so the belt wont line up properly without the back.
  • Plus it has less opportunity to slide out from underneath the child with the back on
  • @lilbit01_209 My little brother and sister are now 11 and 10 years old and they are so skinny, i bet they still fit in the seats lol. They are real skinny and tall because of my step mom, so Im pretty sure they still fit lol.
  • My huge 7 year old is still in a carseat. :) She's 90th percentile, height and weight, but I feel she's safer if she stays in it as long as possible.
  • You couldnt be more correct @fate.
