How many CO alarms do u have?

I am so paranoid now because my parents furnace was causing VERY dangerous levels of CO in their house. My mom kept getting headaches and they didn't have a CO alarm, something told my stepdad to get an alarm so he finally did and once he turned it on in the house it wouldn't stop beeping so he called a AC/heating specialist and AS SOON as he walked in his meter started going off and when they went to the basement it was an even bigger amount of CO being shown, he said if anyone slept in the basement they probably would have died. I am sooo thankful nothing happened to my family, its so scary.

We have 2 in our home, one on the second floor by our bedrooms and one in the basement. But I think we should get another for the main floor. I'm also going to make sure we are testing them on a regular basis. How many do u have in your home?

  • We just have one in our living room. Our furnace is off of the living room because we don't have a basement. When we got our house inspected he said one was fine. But our house is a ranch with no basement so we would only need one.
  • We have one also but only have one floor.
  • We have one in the hallway.
  • wat is this
  • When we lived in cali we had one now we have none.
  • I have one built into everyone of my smoke detectors...i think i have a total of 12 in my home. We gutted and rebuilt our house about four years ago, and it is now code to have a smoke detector in every room. (Or every so many feet....cant exactly remember.) So when we installed our new ones, we went with a combo alarm. That is sooo scary though, i am so glad everyone iss okay!
  • @coltensmamma that's awesome, I wish we had that many in my house! ...thank you :)
  • Glad your dad had it taken care of sure is scary. But we have one built in to every smoke alarm, which is in every room. But it's new home so part of what's required now. Good thing!
  • Oh my gosh thats so scary! Im not sure how many we have in our house but we have a smoke detector in every room except the bathrooms. Not sure if its already installed with that but ill have to check with my parents.
  • I have 3. One on each floor. That is really scary stuff! My entire family was once in the hospital with CO poisoning and my sister was the worst because before they got her out of the house her eyes started to roll back in her head. The doctor said that if my mom didn't wake up and they didn't get out of the house everyone probably would have died. It was all 4 of my siblings and parents plus my brothers girlfriend. The only reason they figured out something was wrong was that my mom woke up in the middle night with a huge head ache got up to go to the bathroom and instantly fell down and passed out for a few minutes and then got up and fell down again until she got my dad up who got everyone out of the house and called me to drive them to the hospital.
  • @lilliansmom how scary. Thank God everyone is ok can't even imagine being in that situation I would have been freaking out.
  • @lilliansmom omg that is so scary!! Thank God everything turned out ok. I really didn't know the importance of the detectors until now. Finding out my family could have died really put me into a funk for a few days, I was literally crying at the thought.

    @mommylovessparkle you should definitely check.
  • We have one in every bedroom of the house. And one in the kitchen
  • @kayleigh27 that's good! That's what I want.
  • So scary! We have one. Its against the law to sell or rent a house without one here in CA.

  • I only have one but because of your story I'm heading yo home depot and by some more. I'm glad your family is okay. So many people die for CO its scary. SO told me that 4 months ago two people died from CO they were living in the basement.

This scares me because I have heard stories of babies dying from CO too. Luckily SO has CO alarm in the basement where he stays and one upstairs in the kitchen. At my house I only have because we live in an apartment building.
  • @veevee you should, it's always good to take extra precautions.
