ear infections

edited March 2011 in Health
So I have been on anti biotics 4 times since I have been preggers for ear/sinus infections and they seem to go away for like a week maybe 2 sometimes 3 if I'm lucky. Then they come right back. What is wrong with me? Tonight my right ear hurts so bad I can't lay on it what should I do and has anyone else had this prob?

  • I have had chronic ear infections since I was a kid. When I was 19 they wanted to put tubes in my ears but since tubes are meant to push themselves out as your ears grow (most people outgrow chronic ear infections) I was too old for my ears to grow/push them out, plus there was an obvious underlying issue for the infections to continue, so I saw a lot of doctors. None of the doctors, ear/nose/throat specialists could figure it out. Finally, a new doctor took over in my old doctors office (there was 6 doctors in one practice, along with a dermatologist) well anyway I saw him since my regular doctor was on vacation. One look in my ears he knew right away what was wrong& what needed to be done. My eutaschion tubes are flattened instead of tubular so they can't drain properly causing an infection& making me dizzy. He put me on antihistamine (Atarax/Vistaril), Benadryl& ear drops. I have only had a handful of ear infections since, incidentally only when I didn't fill my prescriptions. The Atarax/Vistaril is an antihistamine, but most anti nausea meds (except for Zofran) are antihistamines, so it not only helped my ears drain, but when I got dizzy it helped me not be so nauseous. I had to go thru 15yrs of chronic ear infections before it was finally figured out. I know how annoying, frustrating& painful it is. I hope you get it figured out soon.
  • @mrsdelrae thank u I hope it gets figured out too these sleepless nights r killin me! At least when baby gets here I will be prepared ;) I'm gunna mention u to her and see what happens
  • Good luck! Ear pain is just awful, I would honestly rather give birth :) let me know how it goes!
  • I will my dr doesn't open for a few more hours but hopefully if I call first thing I can get some answers
  • Where do you live? First baby? I'm in AZ, 27yrs old, 4 children (all girls) expecting our 5th (&last!) baby on our youngest 2nd birthday. Have a gender scan in 12hrs, so excited!
  • id this is my second his first I have a 5yr old boy and this one is a boy I only have 5 wks to go but I'm hopin for an early arrival lol
  • I'm 25 and idaho
  • How exciting! It has always felt to me that pregnancy creeps along at a snails pace but once they're born it flies by like lightning. My daughters are 11, 8, almost 6 & 18mos. My hubby has a 13yr old son from his previous marriage. This is our 2nd together, so my 5th, his. 3rd.
  • That's awesome and yes it does creep along and then I look at my son and wonder where the last 5yrs went. My hubbys ex couldn't have kids so his family is so excited that he is finally able to have one. He is over the moon too and is going to be such a great dad, he is already amazing with my son.
  • So...got my gender scan done. I'm still in shock; but its very much a BOY!!!
  • Congratulations you finally have your little boy! It would be a huge shock after al ur girls. Its going to b so fun for u though.
  • Thank you so much!!
  • So what is ur due date?
  • Congrats! Hey I forgot to tell u my doc is sending me to an ent specialisxt tues so hopefully he will figure somethin out :)
  • Thank you! I hope it goes well for you & you get good news. Keep me updated, okay? >:D<
  • I sure will ;)
  • @mrsdelrae where abouts in az do u live? My hubby might be getting transfered down around that area with his job...
  • @burgkath I live in Phoenix, in the Arcadia neighborhood, 44th street& Camelback. What is his job? Why would he be transferred?
  • He works for maverik as a store director and there is a opening for field merchandiser which would be a corporate position. He would be traveling all over az nv and southern ut.
  • What is Maverik? Would he be mainly based in AZ? If he takes it, when will you move?
  • Its a gas station and yes mainly az would be the region he would be covering. If he takes it he would start trainin down there mid april and I don't think I would move till around june. I want my baby to be a couple months old b4 I move away from all my fam...
  • Gotcha. Well, there are a ton of nice places to live here, the company I rent from owns about a dozen homes in my neighborhood. I love the fact that if something needs to be fixed I am not fighting with a private owner, but rather a company who gets right on it. That would be awesome, its nice to have friends nearby that you have things in common with&can have kids around the same age.
  • I have had chronic ear infection since I was a baby and have had over seven ear surgeries since about one (hopefully my baby girl does not inherit this) the doctors have really no way to fix it since tubes obviously didn't work its just something I have to live with and always be aware of for the rest of my life...so I hope you do have a problem that can be fixed easily bc ear infection is the worst pain (next to getting your ear drum scraped during surgery) try going to an ear specialist not just some plain everyday doctor you will get better results
  • @arand89 I have an apt today with a specialist so hopefully all goes well :)
@mrsdelrae yes friends r way important I have lived in id and around my fam my whole life so moving away from them is gunna b hard but I love my hubby and am by his side no matter what.
  • I think if you moved here, we would have fun :) do you have a Facebook? If so, I will look you up :)
  • Yup I sure do :) gakwkath@isu.edu is my email and its Kathy Burgess (idaho)
  • Sending you a friend request in a bit. Just please don't mention my pregnancy on my Facebook, we're keeping it secret for awhile ;)
  • Sounds great ;)
